Berkeley Lab in partnership with industry partners has developed a prototype hybrid Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system that includes integrated thermal energy storage. The prototype is intended to be a technology demonstration of what eventually would be a replacement for a single packaged vertical unit (the kind of wall mounted unit we see on small offices and classrooms). Variations on the same theme could be used in residential and even larger commercial buildings.
