Dynamic Price Response through Energy Management Systems for Commercial Buildings

This project will demonstrate taking dynamic electricity price and greenhouse gas (GHG) signals into consideration when optimizing Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system controls. DemandEX is a cloud-based optimization software designed to help buildings intelligently use electricity utilizing existing building automation systems and hardware. In this project, Extensible Energy will adapt their existing DemandEx software to receive and respond to streamed signals from the CalFlexHub price server. The project will demonstrate the product’s capability to control commercial HVAC loads based on received price signals in addition to other factors such as weather and indoor environmental conditions. This technology will be first tested in a laboratory environment in the California Lighting Technology Center building and later in another building on the UC Davis main campus.
