Development and Validation of Price and Load-Responsive Controls for 120-volt Heat Pump Water Heaters
This paper details a study led by the New Buildings Institute (NBI) and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) that conducted the first field tests on load-shifting capabilities of 120-volt heat pump water heaters (HPWHs) equipped with CTA-2045-enabled Universal Communication Modules (UCMs). Tests were performed across three utility territories in California over five months, using the Load Up (LU) signal in four tests and the Advanced Load Up (ALU) signal in one.
